(July 19, 2008) – Rod Fuller raced his David Powers-owned N C Machinery-backed dragster to the No. 4 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Pacific Raceways. Fuller’s best qualifying elapsed time was 3.841-seconds. Fuller, who has seven career Top Fuel poles, including the Norwalk, Ohio race in late June, clocked his best qualifying effort on Friday evening at Pacific Raceways when the Las Vegas driver used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to power the N C Machinery car to a run of 3.841 seconds at 313.73 mph. On Saturday’s first qualifying attempt, the Caterpillar car suffered an ignition problem and did not make a run. Fuller then posted a time of 4.902 at 142.42 on his final qualifying pass. The N C Machinery car dropped a cylinder on Saturday’s second pass. It is the eighth time that Fuller has qualified in the top half of the field this season and first time he’ll start from the No. 4 position in 2008. “We made a good run on Friday night and that put us solidly in the show,” Fuller said. “We had an issue on the first run today and those things happen. We’re fortunate it happened during qualifying and not on race day. That might be our lucky break. We’ll get his NC Machinery car tuned-up and go some rounds on race day.” The seven-time Top Fuel winner will face off against No. 13 qualifier Steve Torrence in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday. They have never met during eliminations.
