FULLER QUALIFIES CATERPILLAR DRAGSTER EIGHTH AT GATEWAY

MADISON, Ill. (May 3, 2008) – Rod Fuller and his Rob Flynn-led Caterpillar Top Fuel team made four consistent 4.5-second passes en route to qualifying the Caterpillar/Linn State Technical College dragster eighth Saturday afternoon at Gateway International Raceway. 

Fuller, a six-time NHRA Top Fuel winner, paced the field on Friday’s opening session with a run of 4.566 seconds at 323.04 mph. The Las Vegas racer posted his quickest pass of the weekend on Friday evening when the Caterpillar/Matco Tools rail carded a pass of 4.541 at 321.50. Fuller recorded two more 4.5-second elapsed times on Saturday afternoon at Gateway, running 4.573 seconds and 4.587 seconds to finish eighth in the 16-car order. It is the seventh time in his Top Fuel career that Fuller has qualified eighth. 

“Our car continues to be very consistent,” Fuller said. “That makes us happy. We’ve made nine full runs and that shows how much we’ve improved our consistency. We’d have liked to run quicker today, but we had a few issues. I had to lift on the last run and it was going to run a (4).50 or .51. Cory (McClenathan) is always a tough draw, so we’ll have our work cut out for us.”

Fuller will match up against No. 9 qualifier Cory McClenathan in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday. Fuller is 0-1 against the 30-time Top Fuel winner this season.
