(July 13, 2008) – In the first meeting between the two David Powers Motorsports dragsters this season, seven-time Top Fuel winner Rod Fuller and the Wagner Equipment dragster fell to teammate Antron Brown Sunday at Bandimere Speedway. The defending event champion at the Mile-High Nationals qualified in the No. 13 position on Saturday afternoon with an elapsed time of 4.050-seconds. That pitted Fuller against Brown and the Matco Tools team. As the third pair of dragsters to face the hot Bandimere Speedway quarter mile, Fuller used a slight starting line advantage in the Caterpillar car and powered to a pass of 4.115 seconds at 277.43 mph. Brown’s bright blue rail recorded low elapsed time of the round at 3.995 at 298.21 to advance to the quarterfinals. In a strange elimination ladder, the first three pairs of cars to race on Sunday were all teammates. Fuller now ranks fifth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings following 13 of 24 races on the 2008 schedule. “It was a tough weekend for us,” Fuller said. “We struggled from the get-go here at Denver. It was the opposite of last year. If you lose, about the only person you want to lose to is your teammate. We had good early numbers on that run, so that gives us confidence going into Seattle next weekend.” The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event is the 21st annual Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals, July 18-20, at Pacific Raceways near Kent, Wash. Fuller advanced to the semifinals at the Seattle NHRA race last July. Brown drove to a runner-up finish Sunday at the Denver NHRA race.
