(July 12, 2008) – Rod Fuller, the defending event champion at the Mile-High Nationals, qualified his Wagner Equipment dragster in the No. 13 position Saturday afternoon at Bandimere Speedway during the 29th annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals. Fuller’s quickest pass of the weekend came Friday evening under the lights at the scenic Colorado track when the seven-time Top Fuel winner cruised the 1,000-foot course in 4.050 seconds at 292.90 mph. On Saturday, Fuller made two consistent passes in the Caterpillar rail. He clocked runs of 4.109 at 285.77 and 4.204 at 238.55 to finish 13th in the 15-car Top Fuel order. It is the second time he has qualified 13th this season and sixth time he will start in the bottom half of the field in 2008. “It’s been a long time since we’ve struggled like this,” Fuller said. “We have a great team and they’ll get it figured out. There’s a problem, we just don’t know what it is. We’ve been changing things and we’re running out of things to change. We’ll get it fixed and be ready to defend our Mile-High Nationals championship. “We ran the Matco car in the finals last year, so this is a re-match of that final round. We do know there will be one David Powers car in the second round and that’s a good thing.” He will match-up against David Powers Motorsports teammate Antron Brown in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations at Noon (MT) on Sunday at the Denver NHRA race. Brown qualified in the No. 4 position at 3.998-seconds. They have yet to meet during eliminations this season.
