BROWN DRIVES MATCO TOOLS RAIL TO NO. 5 SPOT FRIDAY AT VEGAS

LAS VEGAS (April 11, 2008) – Antron Brown raced his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the provisional No. 5 qualifying position Friday evening at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 17-time NHRA winner clocked a run of 4.600 seconds.

Coming off his historic victory in Houston two weeks ago, the 32-year-old driver used a Lee Beard tune-up to race his Matco Tools dragster to the provisional No. 5 qualifying position with a pass of 4.600 seconds at 324.75 mph. The Matco rail overpowered the hot LVMS track on its opening qualifying effort of the weekend. Brown has a consecutive qualifying streak of 149 races. 

“It was tricky out there on that first run,” Brown said. “Not a lot of cars were making it down the track. I just have to give it up to Lee (Beard) and my Matco team. They made the right adjustments and we made a good run to put us in the show. It’s gonna be hot out for the rest of the weekend, so we want to make some good runs on Saturday to give us some data for the race on Sunday.”

Professional nitro qualifying picks up Saturday afternoon at The Strip with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (PT).
